Nutrition Reference is an editorially-independent reference work. Nutrition Reference is an editorially-independent glossary of nutrition science terminology — macronutrient biochemistry, micronutrient bioavailability, metabolic physiology, and the concepts behind modern dietary assessment. Each entry is peer-reviewed against primary sources.
Editorial independence
We do not accept sponsored entries. We do not accept paid placement. Every glossary term is peer-reviewed against primary sources before publication. Commercial products are mentioned only where clinically or editorially relevant — and always alongside alternatives — with transparent disclosure. We don't write reviews; we define terminology. When a term has commercial adjacency (e.g., tracking apps, supplements), we note that adjacency honestly and link to the underlying mechanism rather than the vendor.
Editor-in-Chief
Helena Weiss trained at Cornell Division of Nutritional Sciences and worked as a postdoctoral fellow in metabolic physiology before moving into clinical dietetics. She founded Nutrition Reference in the fall of 2025 after a decade of teaching nutrition literacy — and repeatedly confronting the absence of a high-quality, vendor-neutral reference work for the field.
Her editorial standard for every entry: define the term with academic precision, cite primary sources (PubMed, USDA FoodData Central, FDA, NIH, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics), acknowledge where consensus ends and practice begins, and disclose any commercial context transparently. Helena reviews every entry before publication.
